If you haven’t yet heard about Mitacs, you will want to read on as there are some exciting opportunities you may want to check out.

Mitacs offers unique research and training programs to graduate students and postdoctoral fellows. Their website states that, “Mitacs is developing the next generation of innovators with vital scientific and business skills, in partnership with companies, government and academia.”

Three programs are of particular interest to graduate students.

The STEP PROGRAM trains grad students and postdoc fellows in essential interpersonal, project management and entrepreneurial skills that they will need to succeed in their future careers. At Carleton, we offer four Mitacs Step workshops every year (two each during the fall and winter terms). These workshops are all free and are part of the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Affairs’ Grad Navigate – a hub of grad-specific workshops and services that assist grad students in navigating different aspects of their grad school experience and developing professional skills.

“I am thrilled that Carleton has partnered with Mitacs so that we can offer graduate students workshops such as Project Management, Team Building and Entrepreneurship,” says Leah DeVellis, FGPA’s coordinator of grad student professional development. “Mitacs workshops offer students practical skills training that can be translated immediately into their studies and prepare them for their careers. These workshops are topnotch and we hope grad students will take advantage of them during their studies.”

MITACS ACCELERATE connects companies with over 50 research-based universities through graduate students and postdoctoral fellows, who apply their specialized expertise to business research challenges. Interns transfer their skills from theory to real-world application, while the companies gain a competitive advantage by accessing high-quality research expertise. Mitacs Accelerate PhD Fellowship is now accepting applications. Click HERE for more details.

The GLOBALINK RESEARCH AWARD  offers senior undergraduate and graduate students at Mitacs full and associate partner universities the opportunity to participate in 12- to 24-week research projects supervised by professors at accredited universities in the following Mitacs partner countries: Brazil, mainland China, India, Mexico, Turkey and Vietnam.

“At Mitacs, we have developed a unique suite of programs that are at the very heart of creating an innovative and productive country,”says Mitacs CEO and Scientific Director Dr. Arvind Gupta.Programs such as Accelerate and Elevate offer graduate students at Canadian universities the opportunity to develop the necessary skills training they need to enter today’s job market.”
