Application Insider: Edition #5

Program Prerequisites & Required Documents

Applying to a graduate program is a different process then what you would have experienced applying to an undergraduate program. Although the university to which you are applying may have general minimum requirements, specific programs may have certain requirements that are higher than the minimum requirements. It is also important to submit the required supplementary forms and documents as described by the academic unit offering the program before the application deadline and to ensure you are following the directions precisely.

In the fifth edition of Application Insider we offer an overview of what kind of documents are required by Carleton’s graduate programs. Read Edition #5.

Application Insider provides prospective students with a series of tips on how to apply to graduate school. The series is based on Carleton’s application policies, but the information can be useful in all graduate school applications. You can view the complete series here.

Upcoming Online Information Sessions

As a reminder, we are offering online presentations to allow prospective students to find out more information about the graduate school experience at Carleton, the application process, program requirements, and award and funding opportunities. External Funding (OGS & Tri-Council) Application Deadline – Dec. 1

Carleton offers generous admissions funding in the form of a teaching assistantship, research assistantship and/or scholarship. When you submit your application for admission to Carleton, you are automatically considered for funding and if you are eligible, you will be notified in your Offer of Admission and Funding.

However, you may want to consider applying for external funding. This includes the Ontario Graduate Scholarship (OGS), valued at $5000/term for 2-3 consecutive terms and the Tri-Council Funding (SSHRC, NSERC and CIHR), valued at $17,500 for 12 months.

The deadline to apply for these external awards is December 1, 2016 for the Fall 2017 entry term. You can read more about external funding opportunities and the application processes on our website.

Application System Update

As you may be aware, the Online Graduate Application Account system for Carleton University has been shut down as of Friday, October 14, 2016 for annual maintenance. The system will reopen on Tuesday, November 1 at noon.

If you did not complete your online application and completed your payment before this shut down, you will need to reapply beginning with Step 1: Requesting an Application Account. If you did complete your online application and your application fee payment was processed, you do not need to reapply and you can continue to upload your required documents in Carleton Central.

Please note that the application process will change slightly when the Online Graduate Application Account system reopens on Tuesday, November 1, 2016. For complete up-to-date information regarding how to request an application account and to apply, please visit our How to Apply website.
