New Graduate Students

Once you receive an offer of admission to a graduate program at Carleton, and have chosen to attend, we want to ensure you have a smooth transition to begin your studies. Our new grad students website provides you with a number of resources to help you with your transition, such as checklist for new students, orientation information, and courses registration information. You should also ensure you have read the Terms and Conditions of your offer before accepting.


Pre-Arrival Online Presentations

The Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Affairs (FGPA) will be running a two-part pre-arrival online presentation series for international students on July 6 and August 9. There will also be a general pre-arrival online presentation on July 25. These sessions will provide important information for all new graduate students. More information & registration.


Program Spotlight: Northern Studies

This fall, Carleton is offering five new graduate programs, including the MA, MSc and Graduate Diploma in Northern Studies. The interdisciplinary Northern Studies graduate program emphasizes northern environments and societies, and the policies that are developed to govern them. All of the programs are designed to give interdisciplinary training and experience in Northern Studies and all students are required to begin their studies with a field course. Students can complete this program as a Master of Arts, Master of Science or as a Graduate Diploma.


Graduate Student Research: Making Wireless Networks More Effective

An email attachment that just won’t load, a video streaming in a poor resolution, or an Instagram photo that won’t upload. These are all pet peeves of mobile network users who are experiencing a slow and inefficient network connection. If you have ever been aggravated by a slow connection on your smartphone, Carleton student Chengchao Liang’s research may be of interest to you. Liang is pursuing his PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering and his research focuses on making wireless networks more efficient and effective. Read more.


Carleton PhD Students Bring Home Four Prestigious Vanier Awards

This year, four Carleton University doctoral students won Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarships making this the best ever showing for Carleton students.These scholarships are open to PhD students across Canada and are valued at $50,000 per year for three years during their doctoral studies.
