Event Overview

On Dec. 6, 2022, the Faculty of Engineering and Design (FED) invites the Carleton community to join us in observing Canada’s National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women–established in commemoration of the 1989 killing of 14 women at École Polytechnique.

As part of this year’s commemorative event, FED will be introducing an honorary plaque in Carleton’s new Engineering Design Centre (EDC), in memory of these 14 women and to re-affirm our commitment to eliminating all forms of gender-based violence in our community.

Beginning at 12:15 p.m., Prof. Cynthia Cruickshank and Robin Feeney, a Carleton Student Engineering Society (CSES) councillor, will offer reflective remarks and Carleton’s President and Vice-Chancellor, Benoit-Antoine Bacon, will hold a moment of silence before inviting attendees to view the new December 6 commemoration plaque.

Event Location

This event will be taking place on the ground floor of the Engineering Design Centre (EDC) – the new annex to Mackenzie Building. This new space can be accessed directly from Library Road or through Mackenzie Building. Please note that there is no tunnel access directly to the EDC.

Content Warning

As a trigger warning, please note that the event will reference gender-based violence. We understand that this can trigger strong reactions and we encourage the community to connect with Carleton University’s Sexual Assault Support Centre and/or Health and Counselling Services for support. Additional community supports can also be found here.
