The need for evaluators who are able to work in domestic governments, international development agencies, consulting firms, business and non-profits is growing as pressure to demonstrate policy and program performance and impact is increasing. Carleton’s accredited Public Policy and Program Evaluation diploma prepares students for roles as evaluators and as managers of evaluation. The program prepares students to understand the various approaches and traditions of evaluation, methodologies and techniques within each of these, and to think critically about evaluation use and design. You will better understand where evaluation fits in the broader contexts of public policy, strategic management and accountability and appreciate how to make more effective use of evaluation. Students may apply up to four of the six diploma courses toward an application to the Master of Public Policy and Administration.

This graduate diploma is offered exclusively online in order to provide more flexibility to program participants.

Capital Advantage

With a worldwide network of alumni, our diploma and MPPA graduates are a “Who’s Who” of the Government of Canada and occupy senior positions in many jurisdictions, and in the private and non-profit sectors. In addition, the DPE will connect you to various federal, provincial and municipal actors in evaluation through active projects, discussions and workshops. Students typically work alongside federal departments in the design and completion of active evaluation projects. Some of our instructors are practitioners in the evaluation field and come from federal departments and agencies, and the consulting industry.

Additional Information

Carleton’s diploma program in evaluation is a recognized credential toward the CES CE designation, and is one of only a few programs dedicated to understanding evaluation from a public policy and public administration perspective.
