Startup Canada has announced that Carleton’s Technology Innovation Management (TIM) graduate program is this year’s runner-up for the Ontario Entrepreneurial Effect Award. The award is given annually to an organization that has developed and produced a program, tool, research project or event that has had the greatest impact in advancing entrepreneurship in Ontario.
“Carleton’s TIM program has inspired and equipped hundreds of high-tech entrepreneurs,” said Carleton President Roseann O’Reilly Runte. “I am pleased that Startup Canada has recognized the incredible activity, excellence and dedication of the TIM team.”
The Startup Canada Awards celebrate and distinguish the individuals, communities and institutions in Canada that have demonstrated innovation, excellence, outstanding achievement and created an impact in advancing Canadian entrepreneurship.
Led by Tony Bailetti, TIM is a unique master’s program for aspiring entrepreneurs who are serious about creating wealth at the early stages of company or opportunity life cycles. The TIM program leverages the talent of both the Faculty of Engineering and Design and the Sprott School of Business. To achieve this, the academic program focuses on teaching the theory and practice that support the launch and growth of technology companies and of growth-seeking initiatives within existing companies. TIM has broad appeal and provides benefits to founders of new companies, people seeking more senior leadership roles within established companies, and talented professionals building credentials and expertise for their next move.
“Faculty and students in the TIM program are uniquely focused on global growth and innovation,” said Bailetti. “This program is responsible for the birth of BigBlueButton, the No. 1 open source conferencing system in the world.”
Also receiving an award was Carleton economics graduate Sean Wise, who was named Entrepreneur Mentor of the Year. Carleton is among good company in the national capital, as several local entities also placed well in the awards. Invest Ottawa was runner-up for Government Organization of the Year, while Shopify was runner-up for Anchor Company of the Year.
The TIM Program will be recognized and celebrated at the Ontario Awards Fireside Chat in London, Ont., on May 18, 2014. National winners will be celebrated at the Grand Finale taking place at the CN Tower in Toronto on June 12, 2014.
