Thinking about an M.A. or Ph.D. in Anthropology? Wondering what it’s like to be a student in our programs at Carleton? We are excited to introduce you to the graduate programs we offer here at Carleton University! Join us at our Virtual Grad Café on Wednesday, January 13th from 4:00 – 5:00pm EST. Register here to join our information session with the graduate program coordinator and graduate students!
Our MA program focuses on socio-cultural anthropology and promotes the exploration of cultural practices and social conditions in diverse contexts throughout the world. Optional specializations in African Studies, Latin American and Caribbean Studies, Digital Humanities, and Climate Change Studies are also possible. Our PhD program focuses on “engaged anthropology”, which emphasizes methodological, social and practical engagements with the world. Our unique program features a portfolio (and no comps), is designed to help students move efficiently to the fieldwork stage and provides strong support for the thesis-writing process.
Our Department is well known at Carleton and beyond for its welcoming atmosphere and sense of community. We seek to foster a vibrant social and intellectual life and to create supportive spaces through our graduate peer mentor and graduate transition mentor programs. You can also find out more about us by exploring our faculty profiles, and the cutting-edge research our anthropologists are conducting on a wide variety of topics, in many regions of the world. Students can take additional advantage of the benefits offered by a joint Department with Sociology – one of the largest and most prestigious of its kind.
Applications to our MA and PhD programs are due by February 1st. Find out more about our grad programs and how to apply. Email specific questions to our Graduate Program Coordinator, Dr. Marie-Eve Carrier- Moisan (marieeve.carriermoisan@carleton.ca), or our Graduate Program Administrator, Patricia Lacroix (patricia.lacroix@carleton.ca).
