This program is offered through the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering and the Ottawa-Carleton Institute for Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering which combines the research strengths and resources of Carleton University and the University of Ottawa. At the master’s level, we offer the following degrees: Master of Applied Science (Aerospace), Master of Applied Science (Materials), Master of Applied Science (Mechanical) and Master of Engineering (Mechanical). Pathways
Thesis-Based (MASc)
A Master of Applied Science (MASc) includes a thesis, which is a research project which demonstrates a student’s ability to apply knowledge from their field to investigate a specific question or problem in a rigorous and scholarly way. Applicants to the MASc are required to have the support of a faculty member who will supervise their research. It is the responsibility of the applicant to make arrangements with a supervisor.

Graduates of thesis-based Master of Applied Science in Materials Engineering can pursue industry careers in R&D, product design, and process optimization roles across manufacturing, aerospace, energy, and consulting, working with advanced metals, polymers, and composites.

Admission to the thesis-based MASc program is conditional on a faculty member agreeing to supervise your thesis. It is the applicant’s responsibility to acquire a supervisor.

*You should apply for admission for either Fall or Winter. We do not offer courses in the Summer (May to August) term. Applying to Summer term is only possible if you have already arranged with a professor to undertake either a Directed Study or an Independent Study.
