Bioinformatics is an increasingly important scientific discipline dedicated to the pursuit of fundamental questions about the structure, function and evolution of biological entities through the design and application of computational approaches. Fundamental research in these areas is expected to increase our understanding of human health and disease which will lead to innovation in industry. As a field of research, it crosses traditional disciplinary boundaries such as computer science, chemistry, biology, biochemistry, engineering and the medical sciences. Today, bioinformaticians must be able to appreciate significant research in other fields. To meet this need, Carleton University and the University of Ottawa created a collaborative Specialization in Bioinformatics.

At Carleton, you can obtain one of the following:

Capital Advantage

Carleton’s location in Ottawa allows access to many government departments and headquarters for organizations and industries.  Many career opportunities are just down the road.

Application Information

Applicants wishing to apply to the collaborative master’s specialization in Bioinformatics must apply to one of the participating graduate programs (listed below). Once accepted into one of these programs, students must then be sponsored into the collaborative Specialization in Bioinformatics by a faculty member. This is normally the student’s supervisor. This faculty member must be appointed, cross-appointed or stand as an adjunct in one or more of the participating units.
