Our civil engineering programs are leading-edge, tackling such topics as self-driving cars, 3D printing of buildings, use of drones for geotechnical and building assessment, dynamic response of soils and foundations, explosion resistance of structures, multi-hazard earthquake and fire protection of structures, and advanced dynamic computer modelling of historic buildings.
Our PhD program is offered through the Ottawa-Carleton Institute for Civil Engineering which gives students access to professors, courses and facilities at Carleton and the University of Ottawa. Learn more about Ottawa-Carleton Joint Institutes.
Opportunity for Direct-from-Bachelor PhD Entry
Exceptional applicants may be considered for direct entry into our PhD program, offering the opportunity to begin doctoral studies directly after completing an undergraduate degree, based on academic preparation and research experience.
Capital Advantage
Our location in Ottawa gives students access to several industry and world-class government research and developmental laboratories such as Environment Canada and Natural Resources Canada. It also provides unique opportunities to collaborate with researchers in these labs; we have several graduate students who conduct their research off-campus in these world-class facilities.
